People Don’t Come with User Manuals – Why Not??

Have you ever wished you or someone you know came with a User Manual? Wouldn’t it be great to have a guide to why you behave the way you do, and more importantly, what you can do about it?

After all, we would never buy a car without a manual on how to use it or a computer and just expect to understand how everything works without some type of guidebook. We would never go to another country without maps and tour guidebooks to make sure we can navigate our way. Yet we all have this enormously complex piece of equipment which is our brain (mind and emotions) – an intricate organ woven with interlocking systems – that we know next to nothing about.

Its too bad that people do not come with user manuals. I wish that when I was young, I knew what normal was for me. I wish that I knew I had a preference for introversion when I was accused of being secretive and anti-social. I wish I knew that I make decisions based on objective information, when I was accused of being a know-it-all, cold and calculating. I wished I knew that girls with a preference for Thinking were not the norm, so that I didn’t have to feel like an outside in groups of girls.

The fact is that today, with everything we now know about the brain and personality, we actually have the technology to create user manuals for people. We have the materials to teach children how to their brains are ‘hard-wired’ and what their personality preferences are so that they can start life with an awareness of themselves and continue to grow to an awareness of the unique qualities of others. All we need to do is learn it and use it. It starts with the family, it moves to the schools and it propels us into successful careers and relationships when we become adults.
